The City of Delta is working with the farming community - agricultural property owners and farm operators - to explore new options to help guide the approval of non-residential farm buildings on agricultural land. This work will build on the existing City building permit process and align with the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) Act, which sets out permitted uses for these structures. Our goal is to ensure that our approach remains clear, consistent, and responsive to the evolving needs of farmers, while continuing to protect farmland for future generations.

Step 1 - Gather Input

In May of this year, the City sent a mailout and survey to 1,175 farming properties, seeking input on enhancements to the process for reviewing non-residential farm buildings on agricultural land. The results are available in the Documents section. Based on this feedback, the City has worked with the Agricultural Advisory Committee to suggest changes to the process and is now inviting the farming community to confirm the proposed direction of the work.

Step 2 - Confirm Direction

If you farm in Delta or own farmland, we invite you to take a few minutes to review the materials and complete a short feedback form to share your views on what is proposed. Feedback will be collected through to November 30, 2025. Feedback gathered will be used to finalize the work and will be considered by the Agricultural Advisory Committee and Council.

If you have any questions, please contact Celeste Barlow at cbarlow@delta.ca or 604-946-3399.

Thank you for your time and continued contributions to farming in Delta.
