What is a Parklet?
A parklet is a small seating area or green space within a converted roadside parking space or public sidewalk.
What is a Pop-up Park?
Pop-up parks are public sidewalks or parking spaces that are temporarily converted into parks. These spaces could lasts for a few days or weeks. Pop-up parks can act as spaces where people can take a break and enjoy the outdoors. They include features such as: benches, tables, fun outdoor games and landscaping.
What is Placemaking?
Placemaking means creating fun spaces accessible to everyone!
A large part of placemaking is ensuring that everyone in the community can feel connected to our outdoor public spaces.
What is Urban Play?
Urban play is a specific feature of placemaking that lets the public have fun outdoors. Some examples of urban play include: outdoor ping pong tables, a bocce court, painted hop scotch on the sidewalk, and/or a large chess board. There are endless opportunities for urban play in our commercial districts. Please share your urban play ideas in our survey!
Why is the City of Delta doing this project?
During the summer of 2020, City of Delta installed eighteen Adirondack chairs with the objective of providing a physically distanced way to connect with the community and each other. The project was well received by the business community and the general public. This has led the City to look at expanding the project for 2021. The City wants to hear from YOU - which locations and street furniture features would you like to see in Delta?
How is this project being funded?
City of Delta has allocated funds in its 2021 budget to install placemaking projects in Delta's commercial districts.
Who is the City of Delta consulting with?
City of Delta is committed to public consultation for this program. The City has, and will continue to consult with Delta's Community Resilience and Economic Recovery Support Team (CRERST) comprising Ladner Business Association, Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association, North Delta Business Association, Delta Chamber of Commerce, and Tourism Delta on placemaking efforts. We are also consulting with the public until April 2 through the survey function on this page.
How will my input be used?
Your input will be used in a variety of ways. In order to create furniture instalments that are right for Delta, we are looking for your help determining design, material, and location. With your input, we will continue consultation with other stakeholders to help create FUN-iture that the community wants.
How is this project supporting economic recovery?
Among other things, this project aims to increase foot traffic around central locations in Delta, with the intention of increasing safe interactions with local businesses and the public. This project will ultimately create more vibrant and engaging social spaces for the community to use, particularly while indoor commercial capacity is limited during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
What are the maintenance responsibilities for the City of Delta?
The City of Delta will maintain all furniture installments. Should any concerns arise, please contact the City of Delta's City main line at (604) 946-4141 and the concern will be assigned to the appropriate staff member.

What is FUN-iture and is it spelled wrong?
You aren't seeing a typo, the word furniture is intentionally misspelled to emphasize the word FUN! Street FUN-iture is seating, urban play and pop-up park features that the City of Delta is exploring to support FUN in our community. We want you to have FUN this summer while supporting Delta's local businesses!
