FAQs
What is being proposed?
The facility would include a 36,000 square foot inflatable dome and a 3,800 square foot two-level support building.
Alongside the facility and support building, a bridge and pathway connection between the facility and Southpointe Academy property will also be constructed.
The existing playground will be relocated.
Additional parking would be created, along with pathways to the facility from parking lots.
Who will own the facility?
The City of Delta would own and operate the facility, and be responsible for the allocation of community bookings.
Who gets to use the facility?
Southpointe would have first-right-of-use during specified times, totaling up to 40% of the total time or approximately 2,000 hours annually.
The remaining 60% of the time, or approximately 3,100 hours, will be available for Delta's community bookings.
The approximate hours above are based on using the facility for one type of use at a time; however, the facility would allow for multiple simultaneous users. For example, the turf field could be used for soccer at the same time the hard court surface could be used for basketball.
What are the associated costs and who is paying them?
Southpointe Academy would be covering construction costs for the Joint Use Recreation Facility, support building, and the bridge to Southpointe, amounting to an estimated cost of $4.5 million.
The City of Delta will contribute the land. Delta would cover the capital costs for playground relocation, site landscaping, paths, additional parking (if required), sewer, water, electrical, and telecommunications to the building, amounting to an estimated cost of $1 million.
How can I access the facillity?
The proposed recreation facility has the ability to accommodate multiple sports at the same time. Residents will be able to access this facility by using the City of Delta's current booking process for recreation programs.
