Project Background

The Royal York Traffic Calming Project addresses concerns raised by area residents regarding traffic safety, speeding, and pedestrian accessibility. Following three rounds of public engagement and technical analysis, the project has been endorsed by Council.

The primary goals of the project are:

  • Enhancing road safety for all users, including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and those using mobility aids.
  • Improving overall mobility and accessibility within the neighbourhood.
  • Ensuring the neighbourhood remains a safe, accessible, and livable environment for all.

The project team used engineering solutions informed by technical analysis and community feedback to achieve these goals. This approach involves using data to identify the most effective traffic calming measures and incorporating the community's needs and desires into the planning process.

What's Happening Now?

Thank you to everyone who participated in the three rounds of public engagement—your input directly shaped the final plan.

The City is now proceeding with construction of traffic calming measures, including speed humps, raised crosswalks and intersection improvements in the Royal York Neighbourhood. These upgrades are designed to improve traffic safety, enhance accessibility and reduce vehicle speeds on local streets.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by December 31, 2025, weather permitting.
