About Project:

The viewing wharf at Wellington Point Park was closed early this year until further notice due to erosion resulting in shifting of lock block wall at the south abutment. A structural engineering firm had reviewed the site and advised that the pier should be closed due to structural concern and public safety. Engineering design to rehabilitate the wharf is completed and generally consists the following:

  • Reconstruction of south abutment with reinforced backfill and extended lock block wall
  • Installation of new rip rap with geotextile
  • Installation of new steel sleeves and banding for multiple piers
  • Installation of new paver stones
  • Installation of temporary cofferdam

Project Budget: $792,500

Environmental permit approvals have been obtained. Construction is expected to commence in July with completion anticipated by the end of October 2024. During construction, area in proximity to the wharf will be closed. Final area to be confirmed.
