The City of Delta, in partnership with the Delta School District, is working to replace the existing running track and grass infield at Seaquam Secondary School.
Funding in the amount of $4 million has been provided through the Province of BC’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs - BC Growing Communities Fund.
Physical reconstruction of the track and field facility starts in early summer, and set to be complete by late fall 2025. Installation of the tracks synthetic running surface will be installed in early spring of 2026
The project involves expanding the track and grass infield, along with a new running surface. Other amenities include:
Six-lane track
Long jump pits and runway
throwing events circle
Grass infield
Playing field sized for American football and Soccer
Permanent football goal posts
Movable soccer goal posts
New drainage and irrigation systems
Formalized storage container placement pad
Accessible ramp connecting track and field area to school building
Terraced seating area on slope between school and track

Preparatory Work Timeline
End of May
As part of the preparatory work for construction, 82 trees will be removed from the area. In accordance with the Tree Protection & Regulation Bylaw, 181 replacement trees will be planted. The Delta School Board approved the Tree Removal Plan at their March 11, 2025 Regular Meeting.
An information letter will be sent to adjacent residents.
Track Construction Timeline
Early Summer - Late Fall, 2025
Physical removal and reconstruction of the running track and grass infield are will require that the area is closed off to the public.
Walkways connecting the school site with Sandpiper Place and Bond Boulevard closed from June 27 - September 5, 2025.
Students can access the school via these walkways beginning September 6, 2025.
Late Fall, 2025 - Early Spring, 2026
Grass infield area will remain closed in order to allow the newly placed grass Sod time to establish a strong root system.
Running track will be open for use by the school and general public.
Construction activity will be occurring during this timeframe.
Early Spring - Late Spring, 2026
Installation of the track synthetic running surface to be initiated and completed.
