Background
In 2020, Delta Council supported the development of a Vision Zero Strategy, which identified the following as guiding principles:
Reduce fatalities and serious collisions
Improve connections to schools and community services
Address needs for older adults and vulnerable road users
Improving traffic calming measures around elementary schools is an essential component of reaching these goals. The Engineering Department undertook a review of all existing 30 km/h school zones in Delta and identified areas where traffic calming could be improved.
About the Project
As part of our traffic calming measures, speed humps and raised crosswalks will be installed at 17 elementary schools:
Driveway access may be limited when work is taking place adjacent to a driveway. Given the nature of this work, residents may be impacted. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction.
Traffic
Single lane alternating traffic will be implemented between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. during construction hours. Two-way traffic will be maintained outside the regular construction hours. Street parking will be restricted within the work zone.
