The City of Delta is developing a long-term plan to guide the future of John Oliver Park. Currently home to rugby, soccer, and football, the park was identified in the City’s recent Sports Field Needs Assessment as a prime location for a centralized athletic and tournament hub.

Key takeaways from the assessment most relevant to John Oliver Park include:

  • Developing an outdoor athletic facility and sport tournament hub
  • Increasing field capacity for future outdoor sport needs
  • Continuing to serve existing Park uses
  • Improving facilities for growing cricket use
  • Considering a flexible artificial turf surface that can serve competitive field hockey
  • Considering an indoor multi-use sport facility to support artificial turf or sport court uses

Building on input from field sport groups, three example layouts for the site have been developed to support further community discussion. Feedback will help shape a final site plan, which must then be submitted to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) for review and approval, as John Oliver Park is located within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to provide feedback on the example layouts and help shape the future of John Oliver Park!
