Consultation has concluded
Background
The existing asbestos cement watermain along Derwent Way from Humbler Place to approximately 920 Derwent Way was installed in 1959 and is at the end of its service life. A new watermain has been designed for a 75-year service life.
About the Project
City of Delta Construction Crew will be installing the new 350mm diameter PVCO watermain.
Construction has commenced at the north end and in front of property 920 Derwent Way. The new watermain will be constructed along Derwent Way and tied to the existing watermain at Humbler Place.
Figure 1: Example of Pipe Installation
Impact to Businesses
Access for businesses will be maintained when safe to do so. Access to driveways may be limited when work is taking place adjacent to the driveway. With work of this nature, some inconvenience will be unavoidable. We ask for your patience and cooperation during construction.
Once the mainline is completed, new services to property lines will be installed. During this time, water will not be available to the property for which the new service is being installed. The service transfer can take up to 8 hours. If a water shutdown is critical to your operation, please contact us to schedule the service replacement. While we will attempt to minimize impacts on your business operation, we cannot guarantee complete avoidance of inconveniences.
Owners and occupants should be aware that both Delta's watermain and the municipal service to each property are nearing the end of their useful service life, and approaching the age at which replacement becomes necessary. We recommend having your private piping inspected by a qualified professional once the municipal system has been replaced.
Traffic
Construction will occur in the westbound travel lane of Derwent Way. This will be a moving job site, and parking will be restricted along portions of Derwent Way fronting the active construction zone. Single-lane alternating traffic will be implemented along Derwent Way, near the active construction zone during construction hours (7 a.m. - 7 p.m.). Two-way traffic will be maintained outside the regular construction hours.
