Switching to electric yard maintenance
With the environment and global warming taking center stage it's important for everyone in the community to do what they can to make a positive impact. In our house we have replaced our gas lawnmowers, blower and power washer with electric. Lithium technology for lawnmowers weed eaters and blowers is amazing and I see no reason why gas powered home maintenance equip shouldn't be phased out sooner than later. To illustrate the impact, a conventional lawn mower pollutes as much in an hour as 40 late model cars for an hour. Multiply hundreds or thousands of lawnmower phase-outs in the community and you can see what a difference it would make. If Delta were to allow for some sort of rebate that would be welcome as well to promote the switch. The same goes for power washers, the emissions are about the same and the noise pollution is almost worse - what a terrible thing to do to your neighbours on a nice spring day vs a nice quiet electric washer! Buying an electric vehicle has a big impact as well but is often not within the budget of local families. Switching out a lawnmower is not nearly as big of a deal. I challenge other members of the community to make the switch, it's worth it! Even the process of doing yard work becomes more enjoyable!
