89A Avenue Park Playground: Project Update – Consultation Results

Thank you to all who participated in phases one and two of the community engagement for 89A Avenue Park Playground Renewal. We sent letters to 489 residents, posted signage and social media notices, held two open houses at the park and provided a feedback form at letstalk.delta.ca. We received feedback from 34 participants.

Based on the feedback we received from 34 participants, the desired playground design option is Playground Option 1 that was favored by 23 participants. Additional comments included a request for additional seating opportunities, picnic tables and a shade structure over the benches.

• Bridges and balancing; monkey bars

• Inclusive panel play and musical element

• Two spring toys for ages 5 and under

• Swings: two bucket seats and two belt seats

Phase 2 Community Engagement: Design Update

The City of Delta invites you to participate in Phase 2 of the community engagement for the 89A Avenue Park playground replacement. The current playground will be replaced in 2024.

In Phase 1, we gathered community feedback on the new playground through an online form, see below for a summary of What We Learned. This feedback guided our playground designs.

For Phase 2, we present two playground design options for residents to provide feedback. We would like to know which playground design you think will work best at Sunbury Park. Please fill out the feedback form (at the bottom of this page) to let us know your thoughts.

The feedback form will be available on this website between June 1, 2024 and June 17, 2024

You can also meet us in-person at the 89A Avenue Park Playground on the following days:

• Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Phase 1 Community Engagement: What We Learned – Public Feedback Form Summary

In Winter 2024 (January 26 – March 4, 2024) we invited the community to participate in Phase 1 of the community engagement for the 89A Avenue Park playground replacement. The purpose of this community engagement was to evaluate the needs of the community for the new playground at 89A Avenue Park.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our community engagement regarding the Playground Renewal Project at 89A Avenue Park Park. We sent letters to 489 residents, posted signage and provided a feedback form at letstalk.delta.ca. We received feedback from 102 participants.

Out of the 102 participants, 75 of them live 1.5 blocks away from the park. 88% of the participants walk to the park. 27% of respondents visit the park almost every day and 25% of respondents visit the park 1-2x a week.

The existing playground is favoured by the participants due to the location, shade trees, swings, slides and seating.

The main themes we heard from participants through the feedback form are the need for an accessible and inclusive playground with a variety of activities for a range of ages and abilities.

In the feedback form we asked participants their top 5 favourite types of playground equipment in general, they are:

  1. Swings
  2. Slides
  3. Climbing Structure
  4. Monkey Bars
  5. Seesaw / Teeter Totter

Background:

The existing playground at 89A Avenue Park is at the end of its lifespan and will be replaced in 2024.

Our goal is to install the new playground in Fall 2024.

If you have questions about the project or would like to discuss your thoughts and feedback with us, you can find our contact information on this page.
